Women's Friendship Hour
This group meets at 2.30pm on Tuesday afternoons. There are short breaks at Easter, Christmas and half terms and a longer summer break. We have a Communion service once a month and a members' meeting once a month – the latter meaning the members get to chose favourite hymns and readings. The other meetings usually have a speaker who talks on a Christian subject or a Bible passage.
There is an Anniversary tea once a year to celebrate the founding of the group, and members from other groups in the area are invited to attend on this occasion. At Christmas the members have a lunch followed by some form of appropriate entertainment. In months with a fifth Tuesday a light lunch is laid on to which members are asked to invite friends. The group ranges in age from late forties to the nineties but younger members are very welcome although it is not possible to accommodate children at this time. It is sometimes possible to arrange transport for those who need it (within a reasonable distance).
The group aims to encourage its members to befriend and support one another and provides an alternative for those who are unable for whatever reason to attend the Sunday services. The group is also committed to helping support a couple who work for MAF in Papua New Guinea and news and prayer requests are regularly received from them.
